Lara isn't a formally trained artist but has an absolute passion for design, specifically in glass. She has been working with glass for over 12 years and it all started after attending a fused glass workshop with a friend. Her love of craft stems right back to childhood with parents who were crafts people for whom perfection was the main goal, something that rubbed off on to Lara. She has tried her hand at many things including cross stitch, beaded jewellery & silver smithing just to name a few....but it was fused glass that really caught her imagination.
Lara has attended numerous fused glass Masterclasses herself in person and via webinar to grow her skills. She finds there is always a way to give the new skill the 'Lara touch' and make it her own.
The Masterclasses include drop vessels; landscapes with powder; jewellery making; large flower sculpture; splashbacks; general fusing including reaction work; pate de verre & sgraffito with Artists including Amanda Simmons; Claire Hall; Craig Mitchell-Smith; Tanya Veit; Alicia Lomne; Catharine Newell; Tim Carey ... to name just a few.
Lara prefers to work with crushed and powdered glass as she feels it gives her more flexibility in design & the ability to be more subtle when desired.
Lara is also obsessed with flowers (mainly poppies) and sunsets. She loves the Hampshire countryside, especially the ancient oaks surrounding her Bishop's Waltham home. This is a major influence in her work.
She is married to Garreth & has two cats; Jack & Theo
